Borislav Baev was born and raised in Bulgaria, the land of the Cyrillic alphabet, rose oil and kukeri. He has been talking to wood in his own way for several decades. An original, self-taught artist, he tirelessly creates sculptures in the forest. His love for wood and his woodcarving work are a way of life. His style of expression is such that he uses the imperfections, curves and texture of the wood to create fascinating crucifixes, Christ sculptures and chapels – and what makes him happy is seeing the joy in people’s eyes that the reborn wood evokes. In today’s broken world, there is a place for beauty, even if it is made of wood – all you need in order to recognize it is eyes, desire and some courage.
